This is one of the many emails I have received from people across the state wanting us to call a special session to deal with the Governor’s health orders. There have been several of us legislators that have sent letters to the Governor that have never been responded to. I am re-sending this letter to the Governor and I ask that you email your elected officials and let them know how you feel. While I believe we must be respectful of and caring our neighbors in this time, the science does not back up our destruction of good people’s hard work in Wyoming. We must also remember we cannot forfeit our freedom for our safety as then we will have neither. Wyoming citizens have stepped up and been very patient and helpful but this has gone on long enough.
September 19, 2020 Governor Mark Gordon State Capitol 200 West 24th Street Cheyenne, WY 82002 Dear Governor Gordon,
I am writing to you as a citizen and constituent. A group of friends and neighbors have had no success in setting up a meeting with you and Dr. Harrist. She doesn’t answer emails or return phone calls. I understand: she is not elected and has no apparent requirement to respond to citizen requests. So I am writing to you. I am copying members of our Legislature, as well, because I have heard little from them and it’s time for them to hear from citizens and constituents. Free people do not accept change without a lot of information that is true and direct. As a free adult—a constituent and citizen–I do not feel that the people of
Wyoming have been given the opportunity to ask questions, and we certainly have not been given any answers. We have been told what to do, but not why. And, we have not been told what the desired end result is. WE MUST KNOW THIS. My questions are numbered for ease in responding.
1. We started off with restrictions in an attempt to “flatten the curve.” We have certainly done that. The death toll in Wyoming, even with inflated numbers, is nowhere near what experts predicted. What is your desire? How low? How few? Are you looking for zero cases? What’s the goal so we can stop making our children wear masks in school? We really must know this.
2. What is the survival rate of COVID-19 as it has presented in Wyoming? (98.86% of the tested individuals or 99.90% of the total population as I calculated rounding the population.
3. What is the average age and pre-existing conditions of the state’s COVID-19 fatalities and are these applicable to healthy school children and teachers in Wyoming?
4. We never seem to discuss recoveries or death rate, just new cases. Is there money for the state in new cases? According to the state’s health department website half of positive cases have no symptoms.
5. Currently, 1/3 of all Wyoming deaths have occurred in people not living in, or contracting the virus within Wyoming. Just wondering why these deaths are included in Wyoming’s numbers? Certainly a resident of a nursing home in Florida has nothing to do with Coronavirus in Wyoming.
6. Do hospitals in Wyoming receive federal funding when a COVID death occurs?
7. Are there alternatives for masking or social isolation, i.e., healthy diet, sunshine, vitamins A, C, D and zinc?
8. Do you support the early use of hydroxychloroquine to treat Wyoming’s Covid positive?
9. Why are we testing people who are asymptomatic? Asymptomatic people have a much lower viral load and are less likely, or unable, to spread a virus. We also know that PCR testing with higher Cycle Thresholds produce more positive test results, possibly due to contamination.
10. Will using PCR tests with higher amplification cycle threshold equate to more positive results?
11. Why is the Wyoming State lab using CT of 40-43 for PCR testing?
12. Why are we relying on these skewed results when our economy, our healthcare systems and our education systems are suffering?
Thank you for your time and consideration in answering these questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Please know that I am earnest in my expectation for a response. As a free adult citizen of Wyoming, I am entitled to answers.
—Respectfully, Ann Lucas
